I want to learn the inside scoop from Garrettsville residents, young and old. I am new to the area, purchasing a home in 2017 and becoming part of this wonderful community.
With all the bad stuff out there post something that you feel sheds a positive light on your view of Painesville. There are enough places to be negative and this is your spot to tell people what you think.
I think that in the light of all the controversy and problems in this world that people should try and show respect to each other. You do not have to tolerate someone that is trying to abuse you and I certainly do not suggest that we allow people to walk all over us. I just mean that maybe open the door for a lady, call a gentleman sir instead of old man. Show some respect for those around you and you will get it in return. People do not look people in the eye anymore and are too worried about their cell phones and PSP's. Put your phone in your pocket and walk with your head up. Say hello to someone on the street and acknowledge that you are all part of the human race.
My positive out of this? I opened the door for a lady the other day and she looked at me and said, "you are such a nice young man, I thought that chivalry was dead". I felt great and it gave me a boost. I too, like the nice lady, thought that people did not recognize a nice act either, but I have never stopped.
I always allow a lady to walk through a doorway first, unless I think there is danger. I always open their car door, no matter the age. And as of last night I watched a twenty something cut off a pregnant lady to get into a doorway and I called out to him. I told him what he did and asked him politely to allow a lady through the door first. Not only did he say "yes sir" but he acknowledged the lady and apologized. There is still good is everyone, lets see it. JT
recently i met with the downtown business owners at their meeting. what a nice group. Artful Hands Studio allowed us to meet at their shop. thanks to Jan Urbanick.
i hear jokes about shopping downtown, but i recall when there were five bars downtown and it was very unsafe to be downtown in the evening/night. i thanked these folks for doing good business and changing the atmosphere.
i noted Artful Hands was very unique and one of a kind. i also hear tell that Your Vine or Mine has "Throw Down Thursdays." I finally got a chance to meet Mary Jo in person along with Doug Nagy.
thanks again to the downtown business persons, it was an honor to be associated with you.
Thanks for the support and no worries, I am still here. I have just taken a bit of leave from this. I was never a big blogger in the past, in fact this was my first blog of my own. I did this in response to the other blog and to show that we could be positive and not always negative. Fact is, lately I have had many things going on both personally and professionally and the time to maintain this site has not been there. For that I apologize to you.
I guess my other issue is that I have found the repeated complaining on the other blog a bit boring. I have read in a couple times and have decided to avoid some of the conversations because they did not appear worthy of the attention.
I will check out the sweet shop. I have seen them starting up and wondered how it would be, I know right where it is and will go. I will review it as well if you like.
I am glad that you like what you see here and I am sorry if I have slacked off in my duties. Maybe your words have fired things for me to do better in the future. JT
This site is exciting? Lets talk about candy stores and businesses that are closing? Maddog shopping downtown is a joke, some of you just don't get it,talk is cheap, progress take more than feel good talk.
I don't think tat shopping downtown is a joke at all. In fact I find it deeply disturbing that some find it funny at all. Today I needed air filters so I went to Joughins. I ate at a restaurant on Main St. last night and ran to Walnut Redi-go for some quick things I needed. I get my pharms at Rite-Aid ad do my best to keep my money local. I was at the Easter egg hunt, and earth day celebration. I am not perfect, but I am supporting my local community is all. No, the shopping is not great, but show the interest and spend your dollars downtown when you can. It will get better if there is an interest. JT
i do alot of business with walnut redigo, painesville elevator, joughins, and the downtown restaurant's. i have always used painesville banks and the credit union since being out of the service.
i get my forklift parts from napa, those guys can match up anything as well as joughins. my family car goes to avenue auto, and my ole truck goes to mason auto(alot.)
would like to do more business at your vine or mine but there are so many hours in a day. i am ready for a new phone so when horizon opens i'll be in there.
i recommend the "sitdown" downtown restaurants to my out of town customers when they come to our town. i also appreciate the painesville businesses that are my customers and sending me business.
i can think of more. good luck entrepeneurs and i hope we have more coming. i know it takes money, hardwork and dedication and not cheap talk to being a business person. if we are not loyal to each other we'll be speaking chinese soon.
I forgot i just ordered some bunkbeds from painesville furniture for my grandkids. looked on the net and found that painesville furniture was just as cheap, no shipping and no worry of getting ripped off. no driving just stopped by on my afternoon walk through downtown.
in fact before i make a purchase anymore i check the painesville chamber of commerce site.
Very nice maddog, sounds like you found some good deals and some quality goods in downtown. Thanks for posting and I look forward to hearing more about others that have good deal stories. JT
